We are looking for a Senior Technician Target Discovery & Validation - Leiden,NL


Scope of the job

As member of the Target Discovery team, you will support projects in different therapeutic areas including kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease and a new therapeutic area by providing technical input and analysis. In order to identify disease relevant genes as potential drug targets, you will optimize and automate assays, run and analyse high-throughput target knockdown screens and validate hit targets to omit potential off-target effects in accordance with the project timelines. In parallel, members of the Target Discovery team are responsible for e.g. stock management, robot programming and maintenance, documentation and other project support tasks.


We are looking for someone who:

  • Can execute (high throughput) in-vitro assays on primary cells and cell lines at 96 and/or 384-well format under supervision of scientists in accordance with the project requirement;
  • Has experience with gene knock-down technologies (e.g. AdV-shRNA, LV-shRNA, siRNA)
  • Is responsible for the accuracy of the results; analyses the conformity of the data, identifies gaps and implements corrective measures;
  • Can suggest any idea or innovation to solve problems that arise in the own area of expertise;
  • Be involved in biological analyses (depending on seniority);

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • You have a Bachelor degree in Life Sciences with at least 1-3 years of experience, ideally in pharmaceutical industry.
  • You have good experience in the practice of biological tests as well as technical knowledge in cell biology.
  • You have already worked on different types of biological material such as primary cells, cell lines, whole blood.
  • Experience with troubleshooting lab(automation) equipment is a plus
  • You have worked with at least some of the following technologies (luminescent and fluorescent readings, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, Western Blot, ICC).
  • Experience with robot programming (e.g. Javascript, Phyton) and/or handling (Agillent system) is a pre
  • Experience with microplate imaging (e.g. InCell, CLS) and/or image analysis (e.g. Developer, INCarta, Columbus, Harmony, ImageJ) is a plus
  • Experience with troubleshooting lab(automation) equipment is a plus
  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both in writing and verbally.
