We are looking for a Senior Scientist Proteomics - Mechelen,BE


For the Pathway biology group we are looking for a highly motivated and skilled scientist with hands on experience in (applied) proteomics and a broad interest in disease biology.

As a proteomics expert, you will work in close collaboration with the bioinformatics team to build cellular disease networks, unraveling crucial pathways, and perform pathway walking to support the discovery of novel drug targets.


Your role

As a member of this research team, you will contribute to the scientific input of the project. You will need to provide expertise in proteomics, under supervision, to the project team. You will design, organize and realize assays, while overseeing outsourced activities and analyzing data in accordance with the project requirements and timelines.

Ideally, you are a creative, open-minded scientist that is not afraid of challenge and enjoys working in a cross-functional team.


We are looking for someone who can:

  • Suggest ideas or innovations to solve a problem in your own area of expertise;
  • Build an understanding of biology around novel targets and pathways;
  • Propose or implement new scientific or technological methods;
  • Depending on the projects, act as an expert, project member or project leader for the own area of expertise;
  • Actively follow the recent literature on new theories and methods in the field of proteomics;
  • Actively collaborate with other areas of expertise (bio-informatics, cell biology, project team in area of inflammation and fibrosis);
  • Supervise external activities;
  • Mentor or supervise technician(s), apprentice(s) or student(s)

Job requirements

Who are you?

For this role, we are looking for a PhD in molecular or cell biology with at least 2 years of relevant experience in proteomics or

a Master in molecular or cell biology with at least 4 years of relevant experience in the proteomics field.

You need to be up to date with state-of-the-art technologies in proteomics and familiar with analysis tools of omic data-sets. Proven experience with (and/or) gene ChipSeq, immuno-precipitation assays silencing/editing, reporter assays, is a plus.

As a team player, you promote an open and supportive climate and a collaborative organization. You have good presentation skills and can guarantee a proper communication during meetings or amongst the team. Next to this, you are well organized and can handle multiple tasks and projects. You are fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
