We are looking for a Senior Scientist in vitro Biology – Mechelen, BE

Scope of the job

This opportunity will validate your scientific experience, your creativity and your collaborative mind set in the area of target discovery and drug discovery of novel therapeutics for chronic kidney diseases. You will contribute to the development of disease-specific cell models and provide technical and scientific input. On a daily basis, you will plan, design and execute in vitro experiments, document/interpret data and troubleshoot problems. By effectively summarizing and communicating your work, you bring value to your career and Galapagos’ project!

Your role:

• Provide experimental and scientific leadership and expertise
• Ensure a high level scientific standard is maintained
• Support, coach and guide one or more of your team member
• Design and execute experiments in accordance with project requirements
• Provide ideas towards implementation of disease-relevant cellular assays
• Pro-actively investigate, improve and adapt existing methods and techniques
• Plan your work, execute, interpret results and propose next steps
• Presents data, results and ideas in a clear and comprehensive way internally
• Reports to the team leader cellular biology in vitro, kidney disease area

Who are you?

• You have a PhD in molecular or cell biology with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience in the pharmaceutical or academic environment or a Master in life sciences with 9 years of relevant experience
• You have experience with general molecular and cell biology techniques (primary cell cultures, assay development, immunoassays, transcriptomics)
• Experience in working with primary or immortalized cells and setting up in vitro cell assays, experience with kidney cells is a plus
• Ability to propose new approaches and creative solutions for scientific questions and challenges
• Hands on experience with gene silencing techniques is preferred
• Previous experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment is a plus
• Previous experience in mining omic datasets and translating this into testable hypothesis is a plus
• You are a team player with an objective-driven mind set, enthusiastic and highly motivated
• Fluent English, both written and spoken
