We are looking for a Senior Scientist in vitro Biology Fibrosis - Mechelen,BE


  • You act as a Biology lead in drug discovery projects. You are the first point of contact for the project leader with regard disease strategy and coordinate the activities in Disease area with regards to the respective target. In this role, you will represent the Fibrosis group in meetings with stakeholders and will be in close interaction with other in vitro /in vivo teams. You will present data and suggest new research angles. You communicate well across multiple areas.
  • You participate actively in repositioning of Galapagos clinical compound in new indication areas. You are familiar with compound profile and mode-of-action and keen to explore new biology to support compound progression. You represent the Fibrosis in vitro group in meetings with the stakeholders, present data and actively contribute to the discussions.
  • You are able to advance new concepts and propose new targets in the field of Fibrosis based on literature and available internal/external datasets.
  • You enjoy being a lab-based scientist and to apply your expertise in cell pharmacology and disease area of fibrosis. Previous experience with human primary cells and phenotypic assays is desirable.
  • You contribute to the development of junior people by supporting and challenging them on their projects
  • You interact with external partners in alignment with defined GLPG framework and strategy

Job requirements

Who are you

  • PhD in life Sciences (eg. Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Bio-engineering ) with at least 5 years of relevant experience in a postdoctoral setting or preferably an industrial setting. Experience in the Field of Fibrosis is a plus
  • Experience with primary cells, complex phenotypic readouts, disease-relevant processes and good understanding of different protein- and cell-based technologies
  • Capable of developing new ideas to refine the research plan for a specific target/ disease concept
  • Able to apply data mining of internal/external databases in close collaboration with data scientists and to build hypothesis from it on cells, pathways, genes, networks involved in the disease
  • Good communication and presentation skills (a good level of English is necessary)
