For our site in Mechelen, Belgium we are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel - Development

Scope of the job

To reinforce our Legal Department, we are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sector and clinical trials.


Your role

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will take ownership of complex legal issues in our team that supports Galapagos’ Clinical Development operations. We are looking for someone who can provide high quality legal advice and propose creative approaches to business issues and has proven team management experience.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • leading a small, young and enthusiastic team;
  • providing a helping hand and guidance to the members of your team;
  • interact with internal stakeholders (Biometrics, Development Operations, Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Procurement, Quality & Compliance) and external stakeholders (CROs, equipment and service providers, insurance brokers);
  • teaming up with the Clinical Operations team to set up clinical trial activities across Galapagos’ multiple development programs;
  • working with the head of the Clinical Operations team to constantly improve procedures, SOP and WI’s in clinical trials support;
  • staying up-to-date with and training others in legislation and/or compliance in this field;
  • negotiating and reviewing clinical trial agreements and clinical-study related documents;
  • assisting the company in fulfilling its compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements; and
  • contributing to wider organizational goals and/or activities as assigned.

Job requirements

Who are you?

You are a legal professional with a Master degree in Law. You have at least 6 years of relevant experience.

You are a highly organized, detail-oriented, and rigorous person and you are capable of handling confidential information in a discreet manner. Last but not least, you have excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
