We are looking for a Scientist Organic Chemistry - Mechelen,BE

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Chemistry team in Mechelen. You will be part of a multisite team of Chemists and will contribute to the drug discovery projects progression from hit identification through lead optimization to Pre-Clinical Candidate (PCC) nomination.

For this specific application we are looking for a person with great expertise and interest in Organic Synthesis and a source of synthetic expertise with hands on experience in reaction and route optimisation. In addition to being efficient and productive in the lab, we are also expecting you to innovate and improve the Organic Chemistry capabilities inside Galapagos.

Your role

In compliance with good environment and safety practices, you will:

• Ensure the design, synthesis, isolation, and structure determination of new molecules with potential biological activity
• Actively follow recent literature around new synthetic methodologies and incorporate them in your everyday work to address synthetic challenges
• Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory and actively participate in laboratory management
• Propose and implement new technologies in the department
• Prepare reports and give oral presentations to update on project progress and activities on a regular basis
  

Who are you?

• You hold either a MSc degree in Organic Synthesis with at least 5 years or a PhD in Organic Synthesis with 2-3 years of relevant experience in laboratory work, ideally in the pharmaceutical industry
• You are passionate about organic synthesis and possess strong theoretical and technical proficiency
• Experimentation, creativity, new methodologies, and technologies are the main drivers of your scientific growth
• Knowledge of scientific principles, concepts and methods in medicinal chemistry is advantageous
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are mandatory
