1 Principal Scientist Translational Omics

(Permanent contract)

in the Translational Science department



You will join a team that is dedicated to Translational Science to support research and development projects.  You will be involved in the generation and interpretation of Omics data, the development and implementation of cutting-edge protein and gene expression methods for the identification of biomarkers, understanding of compound/target mode of action, as well as the characterisation and translation of in vivo disease models.  All this is done in a team-oriented, result-driven, international research environment.


We are looking for a talented and motivated scientist, who combines exceptional scientific and experimental skills with team spirit.  We expect a strong background in transcriptomics and NGS data analysis and interpretation.  The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and to communicate their research in cross-functional project team meetings.


Your role


Your main responsibilities will be the generation, analysis and interpretation of ‘omics data (transcriptomics and proteomics) to define compound/target mechanism of action, activity on biological pathways, networks, functions in a certain disease model, condition (ex vivo, in vivo model, rodent and human) and to identify biomarkers that support and guide drug research and development decisions.


In this context, you plan, design, execute and interpret transcriptomics and proteomics experiments.

You define experimental design, you prepare biological sample accordingly to the analytical method.

You outsource and pilot omics experiments.

You serve as the omics subject matter expert for translational science team.

You bring expertise in the analysis and interpretation of pre-clinical and clinical -omics data sets, including RNA-Seq, single-cell sequencing, medium or high-throughput proteomics, metabolomics …

You place data findings, results in appropriate biological context, generate and validate biological hypothesis in close interaction with the Translational science scientist, bioinformatician project representatives and the project leader.

You drive the implementation (internal or external) of cutting-edge metabolite, protein and gene expression methods, including NGS technologies, supports validation and troubleshooting of NGS assays, targeted DNA-seq and RNA-seq, single-cell sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics …

You contribute to the selection of CROs and collaborations to support this technical development

You work in close collaboration with Bioinformatics team

You contribute to omics data integration

You write reports, present data internally in different cross-functional team meetings



Job requirements

  • PhD in molecular or cell biology. Hands-on experience working in immune-inflammation or fibrosis
  • At least 4 years of demonstrated experience and track record in transcriptomics and/or proteomic experiments, preferably in a pharma/biotech setting
  • Deep scientific knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, molecular genetics and signal transduction pathways
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting proteomic and/or transcriptomic data
  • Experience in single cell genomics/transcriptomics techniques from cell-isolation to library-preparation
  • Experience in single cell technologies and data analysis is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with computational tools
  • Experience with pathway analytics tools (Ingenuity, Metacore, Cytoscape, …) and text mining tools are a strong asset
  • Experience in omics data integration is a plus
  • Clear ambition to learn about and implement new technologies
  • Experience working with CROs
  • Rigorous and well organized; excellent verbal and written English communication skills
