We are looking for a Medical Director for the Nordics and Alpine!

Scope of the job

Due to our exciting collaboration with Gilead Sciences, we are looking for a Medical Director to lead our teams in the Nordic and Alpine countries! Are you ready to conquer the world and make it happen with us?

Core purpose: Develop, manage, and lead our Medical Affairs team in

  • Nordics i.e. Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden
  • Alpine i.e. Austria and Switzerland

Your role:

  • Act as a senior company representative both internally and externally
  • Work with Heads of Therapeutic Areas to ensure appropriate alignment of Global resources and activities with Global Strategies and implement therapeutic area and disease area / product and strategies in the region
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance and Regulatory to ensure proper and ethical interactions between regional medical personnel and external stakeholders
  • Allocate and oversee utilization of local medical budget
  • Coordinate with Human Resources / Talent Management to recruit and retain the medical team
  • Define and develop required team competencies
  • Line manage and develop Country Medical Advisor(s)/Medical Science Liaison(s)
  • Establish and track appropriate performance metrics
  • Monitor team performance in terms of goals and delivery against in-year medical plans
  • Identify areas for personal development for team members
  • Implement appropriate policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure all materials and events follow Galapagos policies/SOPs and local laws and regulations

Job requirements

Who are you?

We are looking for a new colleague in our global medical affairs department with a solid medical or scientific background, educated to at least degree level and with more than 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical medicine and medical affairs.

A genuine interest to advancing science and healthcare to ultimately meet patient’s needs is mandatory. You are experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams, at the brand or disease area levels, in country, regional or global organizations in field-based roles (Medical Director, Medical Science Liaison). With strong people management skills, establishing and recalibrating priorities, providing constructive feedback and appraisal. 

You are a team player with an open mind set who “dares to try” and can easily shift gears as needed. You are comfortable working with remote teams and using virtual meeting technology

You combine your medical and scientific knowledge with good business acumen and develop highly credible relationships, influencing relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Negotiating across and outside the organization and collaborating with local and global Commercial and Development functions is something you enjoy and can be accountable for.

You are honest and firm when it comes down to scientific and clinical data and will always keep in mind what it means for a patient with everything you do.

Unquestioned ethics are a must.

You are used to working in an international environment, therefore excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of any other language from this region (Swedish / Danish/ German) is a strong added value.
