For our site in Mechelen, Belgium we are looking for a Senior Internal Control Officer


Scope of the job

Galapagos is looking to hire an Internal Control Officer to support the Internal Control team in ensuring SOx compliance is maintained after its successful implementation in 2016. This person will play a key role in supporting the SOx audits, performing risk assessments, developing policies and procedures to cover the potential gaps in internal controls, ensure their implementation and monitor compliance.


Your role

  • Evaluate the adequacy of the design and operating effectiveness of the Company's internal controls and processes through risk assessments, walkthroughs, testing of controls, continuous monitoring of control compliance and reporting results to the Internal Control Manager.
  • Support the Sarbanes-Oxley audits from planning through execution to reporting.
  • Act as a liaison and coordinate activities with third party auditors and control owners to ensure testing is done in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper buy-in and collaboration from control owners and other departments such as Procurement, HR, Legal, IT, Research & Development.
  • Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
  • Further develop written internal policies and work instructions for process and control owners.
  • Monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage multiple priorities/projects timely including ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Provide training to control and process owners on an as needed basis.



Job requirements



Who are you

  • You have obtained a Master’s degree in Finance
  • You have a minimum experience of 2 - 3 years in an international environment
  • Experience with SOx is a requirement
  • Big4 audit experience is a plus
  • Experience in the life science sector is a plus but not a requirement
  • Comprehensive hands-on knowledge of MS excel is a must
  • Your strong organization skills, high degree of flexibility, assertiveness and a critical mindset are key for success. In addition you are experienced in data gathering, problem solving and you have strong analytical skills.
  • You are a good communicator (both written and oral) and a real team player
