We are looking for a Head of Late Medicinal Chemistry - Romainville,FR/Mechelen,BE

Scope of the job

You will be part of a leadership team of this multi-site Medicinal Chemistry Department. You will have important managerial and operational responsibilities for teams across two sites Romainville and Mechelen and will lead and mentor Departments for successful project transitions from H2L to clinical candidate identification. You will be expected to encourage collaboration across sites and to bring new approaches or technologies to help to progress Galapagos portfolio. We are expecting you to have a major impact in the growth of our Medicinal Chemistry Department.

Your accountabilities:

  • Provide scientific direction towards successful project transitions from H2L to clinical candidate identification.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to progress Galapagos extended drug discovery portfolio.
  • Bring new approaches or technologies to help to progress Galapagos portfolio.
  • Provide mentoring other leaders of the Medicinal Chemistry Department.
  • Important managerial and operational responsibilities within the Department.
  • Provide support to the Head of the Drug Innovation in propose objectives, resources and department strategies.
  • As a manager is expected to motivate and guide individuals’ career development

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • Ph.D. in organic/medicinal chemistry followed by post-doctoral training or relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with proven track record of Medicinal Chemistry contributions and project delivery
  • Previous managerial for at least 7 years role is a must
  • Excellent leadership capabilities, with the ability to influence, motivate and empower people.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to influence decision making
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills in English
  • Ability to bring new ideas and have strong creativity to tackle challenging issues
  • Ability to define priorities and to make constructive recommendations
  • A forward thinker with ability to adapt to a changing environment
