Currently, we are looking for an Epidemiology Lead ! This position can be performed from any of our locations.


Scope of the job

This position functions within Global Medical Affairs, which contributes to the successful development and commercialization of new and innovative therapies.

The Epidemiology Lead is a scientific role that involves supporting the development, coordination, and execution of cutting-edge, effective, and impactful epidemiology at a global level.

With accountability for supporting the development of Epidemiology deliverables to improve disease understanding supporting clinical development programs, regulatory submissions, drug safety evaluations, and other organizational needs.


Your role

The Epidemiology Lead will work closely with various Departments and may represent the Epidemiology department in cross-functional teams alongside Development, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Value & Market Access, and Commercial members.

Together with the Head of Evidence Generation & Epidemiology you will interface with key Galapagos senior management and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate communication of results from epidemiology deliverables.


  • Planning and execution of epidemiology deliverables to characterize incidence and prevalence, population segments, risk factors time trends, co-morbidities, and co-medications.
  • Systematic identification and critical appraisal of epidemiological literature to characterize incidence, prevalence, natural history, and phenotype/genotype associations.
  • Summarize results in written reports and oral presentations.
  • When required, oversee development of epidemiology sections of Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, and Clinical Development documents, including Orphan Drug Applications, Risk Management Plans, PSURs/DSURs
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings with presentation of summary findings to Galapagos internal/external stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of epidemiology with respect to regulatory requirements, payer trends, and advancement of pharmaco-epidemiology methods.
  • Support development of Epidemiology department processes and procedures.

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Epidemiology or Medical Degree and Master’s (MPH / MSc) in Epidemiology
  • At least 3 years of industry experience in the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, or consulting environment
  • Prior experience with analysis and interpretation of epidemiologic data within the context of inflammatory and fibrotic diseases, and will be passionate about the application of epidemiology to support developing and delivering life-transforming therapies for patients
  • Thorough and up-to-date technical knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics methods
  • Knowledge of drug and clinical development process
  • Have mature team-working behaviors with organizational awareness and insight
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality, and scientific rigor
  • Ability to work under pressure and lead by example
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
