Scope of the position

The Director Therapy Area Communications is responsible for delivering global strategic communication programs to be executed across our local affiliates for our current inflammation and fibrosis portfolios. He/she will provide above country support to support reputation and trust for our therapy areas and commercial products. He/she will also be responsible to set and align global product communications strategy with alliance partners. He/she will report to the Head of Corporate Communication and will work in close partnership with the Country Heads and local communications leads. This full-time position will require travel time (30%) and can be based in Mechelen, Leiden, London, or Basel.

Your role

  • In close collaboration with the Patient Advocacy, Medical Affairs and Marketing teams, you develop therapy area communications strategies and product launch PR plans at global level with a near-term focus on our current focus areas in inflammation and fibrosis.
  • You are the trusted external and internal voice for our therapy areas, and you are the business partner for global Medical and Commercial strategy leads and the country communicators to ensure that the global therapy area communications strategies are compliant and executed in our local commercial markets.
  • You drive strategic orientation and collaboration with our affiliates on therapy area communications activities and materials to ensure consistency and alignment with the Galapagos brand standards across the Group.
  • You support the Corporate Communication Manager with the development of the therapy area communications calendar and related materials such as press releases, Q&A statements, factsheets, health-related social media campaigns, and other collateral materials.
  • You provide strategic guidance on media approaches to product related events, and you build relationships with influential (medical) media commentators, providing newsworthy content and thought leadership access.
  • You successfully manage multiple projects with agencies, on time and on budget.
  • Monitor and measure impact of communications programs and initiatives with key stakeholder audiences.

Job requirements

.Who are you?

  • Degree in science, communications, or related field required.
  • Seasoned communications professional with 10+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Experience in global product launches, including disease awareness and patient advocacy programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive team leader.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, creative, and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable of the European regulatory environment.
  • Must be able to work on flexible schedule as the business requires, including variable travel up to 30%.
