Scope of the job


You will take full responsibility over commercial operations in line with our international vision, strategies and practices. You gather and share specific insights about market trends and stakeholders.

You ‘make it happen’ in the UK. 


Your role

  • Build Galapagos commercial operations in the UK and lead the business with a strong vision, nurture a high-performance customer-focused, collaborative culture and hold people at all levels accountable for delivery of business
  • Lead with overall responsibility for local business planning, cross-functional leadership, and direct management of the commercial organization including sales, marketing, and market access
  • Launch filgotinib successfully in rheumatology for the UK 
  • Be a driver of Galapagos commercial acceleration, contributing to international initiatives
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with the legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, as well as company policies and procedures
  • Attract, recruit, inspire and lead the commercial team
  • Ensure the local operational set-up (office, HR, admin) with the support of the international functions
  • Contribute to building Galapagos image with media, policy makers and other stakeholders
  • Understand local market and trends: stakeholder environment, competition, success factor in the short and medium term
  • Execute cross-functional (marketing, sales, market access, medical, media, etc.) strategies and tactics according to the agreed governance, operating model and compliance
  • Build a productive relationship with local Gilead organization
  • Contribute to the organisation’s overall strategy and provide timely input to senior management on opportunities, challenges, and risks in the policy environment, and adjust country plans as needed
  • Located in UK, with frequent interaction with the international teams (in person and virtual)


Job requirements

Who are you?


Commercial leader experienced in launching innovative drugs in highly competitive markets, preferably in inflammation. You are pragmatic and strategic, a thinker and a doer. Strong experience in leading and growing successful commercial and cross-functional teams in a global, matrix organization. You have proven leadership with strong communication skills. Ability to network and interface with different stakeholders. Experience with successful commercial launches or expansion in the relevant market/country is needed. Last but not least you have outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
