We are looking for a Communications Director (Inflammation & Fibrosis) !



Scope of the job


The Communications Director Inflammation & Fibrosis is responsible for delivering strategic branded and unbranded regional communication programs in addition to patient advocacy for Galapagos’ inflammation and fibrosis portfolio.

It is a new role since Galapagos has not brought medicines to market so far. Hence, our new communications colleague will have the opportunity to shape the role and the relationships with the different stakeholders. There will be quite some travel (up to 30%).

This full-time position, reporting to the Global Head of Communications and Public affairs, can be based in Mechelen, Leiden, London, or Basel.


Your role


  • Provide communication advice and counsel to the cross-functional therapeutic teams and the country leadership teams
  • Develop Communication plans and budgets for the different therapeutic areas
  • Align with our partner Gilead on communication plans and activities
  • Support the development of core communication materials such as press releases, Q&A, statements, fact sheets and other written material
  • Develop launch activities in close collaboration with the Commercial team. Initially focused on Benelux, France, Italy, Spain, UK and Germany.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects with agency partners, on time and on budget with minimal oversight
  • Key contributor to Galapagos’ social media channels
  • Ensure Communication strategy and materials are compliant


Who are you? 


  • Master's degree in Communications or related field required.
  • Seasoned communications professional with min. 8 - 10  years experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Global or Pan-European experience in product PR (preferably in inflammation or a similarly competitive environment)
  • Experience in global product launches, including disease state and patient education programs
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations (traditional and social)
  • Ability to partner effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility in handling work flow in an ambiguous, time sensitive, multi-tasking environment.
  • Knowledgeable of the European regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated issues management experience required
  • Excellent English written, oral, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
