The Facilities Manager is the ultimate organizer, making sure that the organization has the most suitable working environment for its employees and their activities. As successful candidate for this position, you will manage the facilities-related services and processes that support the core businesses of the organization, with responsibilities over the three R&D sites of Galapagos in Mechelen (B), Leiden (NL) and Paris (F).  You will also be involved in the realization of a future building for our operations in Mechelen (B). th

 The Facilities Manager is involved in both strategic planning and day-to-day operations.  Typical tasks may include:

  • ensuring Galapagos' premises, buildings and technical systems are maintained and operated in line with environmental guidelines and exploitation permits; organize and/or follow up on facility-related administration (including inspections, repair, maintenance contracts, etc.);
  • coordinating and planning of central services such as security, cleaning, logistics, waste disposal and recycling; planning for the future facilities development, in line with strategic business objectives; coordinating and supervising the work of contractors; updating of technical building and equipment documentation;
  • ensuring the building meets health and safety requirements and that facilities comply with all legislation; assist when site visits take place by authorities or insurance companies; you contribute to emergency preparedness and business continuity planning, as well as responding appropriately to emergencies;
  • monitoring and demonstrating achievement of agreed service levels, and to lead on improvements.


  • 10-15 years of relevant work experience
  • industrial engineer qualification or equivalent through experience, with specialization in either building construction, electrical engineering and building services engineering, or project management
  • fluent in English  (both oral and written); active knowledge of Dutch and French is a clear plus; good interpersonal, relationship-building and networking skills;
  • good procurement and negotiation skills;
  • able to multi-task and prioritize your workload;
  • clear and concise writing skills with the ability to handle long and complex documents
  • team worker with the ability to lead and motivate others;
  • proficient with standard IT tools;
  • having a problem solver mentality
